Trinidad and Tobago is an archipelagic state located at the southern most extremity of the Caribbean island chain. The two main islands, T&T together comprise a total land area of 5,126 km².
Trinidad is below the tropical hurricane line, which affects a majority of Caribbean Islands such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and St.George. Trinidad's southern position in relation to the hurricane line has two advantageous results; the safety of not only the land, but the social/economical foundation of the area and; Trinidad's location below the hurricane line and in coordinate with the North Atlantic air current, ensures that, not only are all of these diverse plants and animals out of harm’s way, but the land functions as a refuge for migrating birds as well.
